Abstract
Financial literacy programs have been actively implemented in Russia and the world over the past twenty years. At the same time, the effectiveness of such programs (and, therefore, the need for their implementation) is sometimes questioned. The purpose of this article is to highlight the key areas of development of financial literacy programs based on an analysis of the accumulated experience and research conducted in this area. We show that causal studies confirmed the presence of positive effects of financial literacy programs. Standard financial literacy courses have limited effects on financial behavior due to psychological traits, but this can be fixed by using behavioral interventions. Financial well-being and financial stability (more complex phenomena that characterize the well-being of people) are promising areas for future research.
Keywords: financial literacy, behavioral economics.
